KARUNA EDUCATION CENTER- UNDER EDUCATION PROJECT
Provide the Children and Youngsters in Public Schools the Opportunity to Access to Foreign Language and Specialized IT Training
1.Objectives:
The general objective of the project is to promote the right of all children to a good quality education.
The specific objective of the project is to provide the children and youngsters in public schools within the province of Battambang the opportunity to access to foreign language and specialized IT training.
This project aims to improve the well-being of Cambodian children and youngsters by facilitating the access to complementary education that they will not normally receive in the formal schools and that will permit them to have better opportunities in the future.
2. Project Outcomes:
-Students of selected primary and secondary schools have access to specialized education
With the intervention we intend to target the lack of specialized education services available for primary and secondary school aged children in formal schools of the Province of Battambang.
-Selected university students improve their study performance
With the intervention we intend to provide to selected university students the opportunity to gain knowledge on different ways to use technology to improve their studying performance.
-benefits for the affected community The main benefit for the affected community will be: 1) the opportunity for the beneficiaries to have specialized education in order to have better opportunities in the future.
-benefits for partner organizations in the region with the supporter, the KBO will continue to implement its objective to support the most vulnerable and marginalized people in society regardless of their race, gender, or religion.
-benefits for the nation (where appropriate) As the people of the nation get educated, they become better and productive citizens that in the long run will improve the social and economical situation of the country as a whole
-and benefits for the donors by supporting this intervention, the donors are effectively helping secure to growth of the education system in Cambodia and the education of the beneficiaries.

3. Main Activities: The projects’ main activities are:
- Students of selected primary and secondary schools have access to specialized education
A.1 IT training: In eight different locations around the city of Battambang. More than 700 students from primary and secondary school are currently study with this program. Arrupe Center, Tahen, Pet Yei Chi, Salesian Sisters Center, Tepim Student Center, Svay Chrum Buddhist Temple, Providence Student Center, and Kompong Thom Parish are the classes that provide this program to the students. The courses are divided in two: a basic course where the students learn the basics of the computer, keyboard, mouse and the operating system and Microsoft Office; and an advanced course where the students learn the Adobe Photoshop, Google mail, Internet environment, Computer Repairs and other more specialized programs.
A.2 Foreign language training: In the Svay Chrum Buddhist Temple, Karuna Battambang provides English Language training to 85 students of primary and secondary schools around the area, and yet the Buddhist monks from basic to medium level. In Lapaloma Disable Center and Battambang Parish, we provide English Language training to more than 350 students of primary, secondary and some college students.

A.3 Professional Academy: In one location we provide the students of the local universities with knowledge on how to use technology and general academics to become better students. We impart courses on how to conduct a research, how to conduct studies and how to appropriately present results. Students that show good performance and abilities are provided with a computer and other education support as a loan until they finish their studies.
