Project Location (Country/Region/Province)
Located in south East Asia, Cambodia is one of the three countries forming what was once called the Indochinese Peninsula. The country has common borders with Thailand (east), Laos (north) and Vietnam (west), and in the south it faces the Gulf of Thailand.
The population is estimated to a total of about 16.2 million with an annual growth rate of 1.67 percent. The largest city and capital is Phnom Penh, with a population of 1.4 million, or 2.2 million in the metropolitan area. The next largest city is Battambang, with a population not yet reaching 200,000. The density of the population is up to 81.8 people per Km² and the average size of household is equal to 4.7 people.
Agriculture and tourism are the most important sectors of the Cambodian economy, with around 57.6% of the population relying on agriculture for their livelihood (rice being the principal crop). In the past years, garments and construction have played an important role but the recent economic crisis has deeply affected these sectors. Even if most Cambodians are Buddhists, there is also a strong minority of Muslim (called "Cham") as well as indigenous groups who practice spirits and ancestors' worship.
Our overall projects are implementing in the province of Battambang, Kompong Chnang, Pursat, Kandal, Pailin, and planned to be implemented in Siemreap, Kompong Thom.

The province of Battambang located in northwestern of Cambodia, is approximately 291 Km from Phnom Penh City. The province covers an area of 11,702 km2 i.e. 6.5% of the Cambodian land area. The total estimated population, according to the last Census 2008, is 1,025,174 people or 7.6% of the total population in Cambodia, with around 49.4% male and 50.6% female. Sitting on the Sangker River just south west of the Tonle Sap Lake, Battambang town is at the heart of Cambodia's 'rice bowl', and it maintains an untouched, bucolic feel. Most of the people from Battambang do not have a sustainable source of income. They work part time in the rice fields, small constructions or as farmers taking care of cows, chickens or ducks. Depending on the season they focus in different economic activities. It is usual to leave the children with their grandparents and go to Thailand looking for a better-paid job. Families normally live under subsistence economies, they are thus unable to save up money for the future, given that they live day-by-day.
Pursat province is located in the western part of the country and borders clockwise from the north with Battambang Province, the Tonlé Sap, Kampong Chhnang Province, Kampong Speu Province, Koh Kong Province, and Thailand. It is located between the Tonle Sap and the northern end of the Cardamom Mountains.
The fourth largest province of Cambodia in area, Pursat ranks only 14th in population. The region is accessible by National Highway 5, by boat, rail and by numerous smaller roads. |
The province of Kampong Chhnang is one of the central provinces of Cambodia. Neighboring provinces are (from north clockwise) Kampong Thom, Kampong Cham, Kandal, Kampong Speu and Pursat. The capital city of Kampong Chhnang Province is Kampong Chhnang.
The province is subdivided into 8 districts (srok). The districts are further subdivided into 65 communes (khum) and 478 villages (phum). There is one city and 14 townships. There are also 102 khum administrative organizations.

Kandal Province of the southeast portion of the country. It borders the provinces of Kampong Speu and Takeo to the west, Kampong Chhnang and Kampong Cham to the north, Prey Veng to the east, and shares an international border with Vietnam to the south. Its capital and largest city is Ta Khmao, which is 20 km south of Phnom Penh. It serves as an economic belt of the capital Phnom Penh. Farming and fishing are the two main industries of the province. Major products include palm oil, peanuts, rice, and pepper. In addition to farming and fishing, the province also supports thriving cottage industries that specialize in wood carving, silk, and handicrafts. Many garment factories are located in Kandal Province, which hires more than 500,000 workers.
